Leaving for Cancun it two weeks. After hearing about the drug war we are a bit leary. We are also traveling with a 20 month old and need all the advice we can get. Do you recommend renting a car? what type of baby carrier should i purchase? what about the water? We are staying at the Crown Paradise.
Hi Mary, Don't know if you are checking back here... We did rent a car, but only because we were planning to visit the ruins on our own. Otherwise it was not really needed. You can get around in taxis pretty well. We use the Ergo baby carrier, and it worked well for us. We didn't even bring a stroller and never really needed one. We bought bottled water for everything (went to a grocery store and got lots of big jugs the first day). The ice is made from filtered water at most of the resorts, and we didn't have a problem using it. I don't know anything about your hotel, sorry. I think the most important advice is to not plan too much in a day and bring stuff to keep your toddler occupied on the plane flights. And bug spray!
Thank you :) any concerns with what's happening in acapulco and bordering mexico cities??? I would like to visit the ruins on our own as well. Do you recommend any particular car rental company. Did you bring your own carseat?
We didn't notice any dangerous activities going on or security concerns, but maybe we are just clueless...:) We did bring a carseat and used it on the airplane as well as in our rental car. And we used Hertz to rent the car. They were fine, but I was a little annoyed that the quoted price was lower than the actual price due to undisclosed taxes and the fact that they used an inaccurate exchange rate for their calculations. The car was great though, and the service was fine.
